St Kevins Arcade

Designed in response to the unique qualities of this heritage arcade, the new stone floor attempts to negotiate and reconcile the existing range of materials, finishes and scales. Out of our research into Victorian arcades across New Zealand and Australia we proposed a layout with a dark border of black basalt tiles framing a central checkerboard pattern of veined grey stone. In response to the eclectic nature of the arcade, our scheme allows for moments of texture, fine grain and changes in rhythm within the overall symmetry of the space.
